Content Gaps
The Content Gaps tab identifies specific topics and queries where competitors outperform you in AI responses — revealing your biggest opportunities for improvement.
What Is a Content Gap?
A content gap exists when:
- AI platforms mention a competitor for a relevant query but not your brand
- A competitor is mentioned more frequently or in a higher position than you
- A competitor receives more positive sentiment on a topic where you should be competitive
These gaps represent lost visibility — every time AI recommends a competitor instead of you, that's a potential customer you're missing.
How Gaps Are Identified
EYE analyzes every query across all AI platforms and identifies gaps by comparing:
- Your mentions vs. competitor mentions — Queries where competitors appear but you don't
- Your position vs. competitor position — Queries where competitors rank higher
- Your sentiment vs. competitor sentiment — Queries where competitors get better reviews
- Topic coverage — Entire topic areas where competitors dominate
Gap Metrics
Each content gap includes:
| Metric | Description |
|---|---|
| Topic/Query | The specific subject or query where the gap exists |
| Gap Size | How significant the gap is (mentions, position difference) |
| Competitor | Which competitor(s) own this topic |
| Priority | Actionability score — how easy and impactful it would be to close |
| Intent Type | Whether the gap is informational, transactional, or comparison |
| Recommendation | Specific suggestion for closing the gap |
Priority Scoring
Gaps are ranked by a combination of:
- Impact — How much closing this gap would improve your GSEO Score
- Effort — How difficult it would be to close (content creation, PR outreach, etc.)
- Intent value — Transactional gaps are worth more than informational gaps
- Gap size — Larger gaps represent bigger opportunities
Focus on high-priority gaps first — these are the low-hanging fruit where a small effort can produce a significant improvement in your AI visibility.
Types of Content Gaps
Topic Gaps
Entire subject areas where competitors are mentioned but you're not. These usually require new content creation.
Example: Competitors are mentioned for "natural toothpaste ingredients" but your brand isn't — because you don't have content about your natural ingredients.
Position Gaps
Topics where you're mentioned but ranked below competitors. These usually require strengthening existing content and signals.
Example: You're mentioned 3rd for "best sensitive toothpaste" while a competitor is consistently 1st.
Sentiment Gaps
Topics where your brand is mentioned but with less positive sentiment than competitors. These usually require reputation management.
Example: AI mentions your brand for "toothpaste reviews" but with neutral sentiment, while competitors get positive sentiment.
Platform Gaps
Topics where you perform well on some AI platforms but poorly on others. These may indicate platform-specific training data gaps.
Example: ChatGPT recommends you for "sensitive toothpaste" but Claude doesn't mention you at all.
